Volvo Car India launched the single-motor variant of the XC40 Recharge at Rs 54.95 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price tag, the XC40 Recharge Plus (E60) – as referred to by the company – undercuts the dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant of the XC40 Recharge, which sets you back by Rs 57.90 lakh (ex-showroom). This marks the third electric offering from the Swedish manufacturer, following the XC40 Recharge Ultimate and the C40 Recharge. The XC40 Recharge Plus is available for booking for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh, although through an online portal only.

As the name suggests, the XC40 Recharge single-motor variant gets a rear-axle-mounted electric motor and a 69kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The electric motor is capable of churning out 236bhp and 420Nm of peak torque, while the battery offers a WLTP-claimed range of 475 kilometres on a single charge. Volvo says the SUV can accelerate from a halt to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds and attain a top speed of 180km/h. An 8-year battery warranty is available at no extra cost with the electric SUV, which also includes a wall box charger (as a standard fitment). Moreover, you also get a three-year complete car warranty, a five-year digital service subscription, a three-year Volvo service package, and three years of roadside assistance.

Volvo XC40 Recharge Single-Motor Variant: Features

However, in comparison to the XC40 Recharge twin-motor, the single-motor version lacks Pixel LED headlamps, fog lamps, a Harman Kardon sound system, and a 360-degree camera. Having said that, the new variant comes with a leather-free interior, a 9.0-inch infotainment screen, a 12-inch digital driver's display, wireless smartphone charging, powered front seats, two-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, an 8-speaker sound system, an advanced air purifier system with a PM 2.5 sensor, TPMS, and so on.

Safety-wise, the E60 offers seven airbags, a blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, pilot assist, lane-keeping aid, collision mitigation support (front and rear), and parking assistance sensors (front and rear).

Volvo XC40 Recharge Single-Motor Variant: Rivals

In the Indian market, the Volvo XC40 Recharge single motor rivals the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the BYD Seal sedan (launched in early March), and others. Like the XC40 Recharge twin motor, it too will be assembled at the Company’s plant at Hosakote in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Upcoming Volvo Launches

Last month, Volvo officially confirmed the launch of the EX30 and EX90 electric SUVs in the Indian market by 2025. The former will be the Swedish carmaker's entry-level EV built on Geely's SEA platform, while the latter will be the brand's flagship model underpinned by an EV SPA2 architecture.
