The iconic Mercedes G-Class is getting a makeover for the 2025 model year, with an unexpected emphasis on aerodynamics. All 2025 Mercedes G-Wagon models will have mild-hybrid powertrains, in contrast to the forthcoming all-electric variant that will make its debut later this year. These updates haven't altered the G-Class's essential character, which still includes its distinctive characteristics like a sturdy ladder frame, three locking differentials, 241mm of ground clearance, and 701mm of water clearance. A prominent feature of G-Class design that endured over the years is the car's sharp angles, which manage to turn heads even today. Nevertheless, minor adjustments have been made to boost aerodynamics and decrease noise. Among them, you can see a revamped radiator grille with four horizontal fins and updated bumpers, giving it a new look while keeping it recognisable. After all, the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is still the same fearsome off-road monster it always was, despite all the upgrades it gets.

Changes to the Mercedes G-Class's exterior for the 2025 model year are subtle yet noteworthy. A new, more streamlined grille, revised front and rear bumpers, and an understated spoiler mounted on the top of the roof are all part of the makeover. Most notably, the front-facing camera is now lower in the bumper, providing a "transparent bonnet" view, and it stays unobstructed thanks to a dedicated washer jet.

According to Mercedes, the G-Class's aerodynamic performance has been greatly enhanced, as the drag coefficient has been reduced from 0.53 to 0.48, thanks to these improvements.

The G-Wagon now has upgraded off-road tech that is built into the cabin, providing a range of functions that are designed to make the driving experience better. Included in this facelift is a dedicated set of gauges that can be accessed via the infotainment system. They provide precise data about vehicle location, height, and steering angle. The upgraded 360-degree camera system also provides an extensive view of the ground underneath the G-Class. Additionally, a wireless mobile charger and cup holders with temperature control are part of the interior changes. The most notable practical improvement for the G-Class is the addition of keyless entry, a feature that took a lot of work to integrate without changing the appearance of the door handle itself.

The 2025 G 550 gets a major upgrade for the engine. The new 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six with a mild-hybrid system takes the stage, replacing the outgoing 4.0-litre V8. This redesigned engine takes its cues from previous Mercedes vehicles and produces 443bhp and 559Nm of torque.

Concurrently, the lauded hand-built 4.0-litre V8 engine in the AMG G 63 has been upgraded with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. This update has not affected the performance output, which is 577bhp and 850Nm of torque, with a 4.5-second 0 to 100km/h of sprint.

An optional AMG Active Ride Control hydraulic suspension system similar to the AMG SL 63's technology is available for the AMG G 63 as well, albeit without the conventional anti-roll bars.
