The 2026 World Car Awards have announced the top three finalists. Categories include World Car of the Year, World Electric Car, World Performance Car, and World Luxury Car. The winners will be announced at the 2026 New York International Auto Show, a well-known event for car enthusiasts and industry professionals.
A panel of 96 automotive journalists, called the World Car Jury, selects the winners. The group includes Dhruv Behl, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of autoX. Each juror tests all eligible vehicles in real-world conditions before voting. Their reviews and driving impressions are shared on World Car TV, where viewers can watch detailed coverage of the finalists.

Here are the top three finalists for the 2026 World Car of the Year.

BMW iX3, Hyundai Palisade and Nissan Leaf are the final three. An electric SUV, a full-size family mover and a proven EV badge — three very different cars competing for the same global crown.

Baojun Yep Plus / Chevrolet Spark EUV, Firefly and Hyundai Venue headline the urban category. These are cars designed for tight parking spots, short commutes and everyday practicality without overcomplicating things.

Cadillac Vistiq, Lucid Gravity and Volvo ES90 make the luxury shortlist. All three focus on electric platforms, strong range figures and high-end cabin tech.

BMW M2 CS, Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray and Hyundai Ioniq 6 N showcase three distinct approaches to performance: a compact rear-wheel-drive German coupe, a hybrid American sports car and a high-performance electric sedan from South Korea.

BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz CLA and Nissan Leaf feature here once again, showing how serious the EV race has become. From premium electric SUVs to everyday EV hatchbacks, brands are pushing harder than ever on range, charging and overall efficiency.

Kia PV5, Mazda 6e / EZ-6 and Volvo ES90 stand out for the way they approach design, both outside and inside the cabin. Each model brings a clear visual identity: from sharp exterior lines and distinctive lighting to clean, tech-focused interiors that reflect where modern car design is heading.
