2027 Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 Goes Back to Six-Cylinder Roots With 3.0-Litre Engine

The 2027 GLC 53 4Matic+ will be a sheer delight for performance enthusiasts, as Mercedes-AMG has reintroduced the six-cylinder engine. The new 'high-revving' 3.0-litre inline-six replaces the previous 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit, which powered the GLC 43 and GLC 63. AMG has redesigned the unit to offer sharper responsiveness and enhanced agility. The new 3.0-litre inline-six produces 443bhp and 600Nm (which can temporarily rise to 640Nm for 10 seconds with an overboost function).

Power is distributed through the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission and the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ system. Among other highlights is an electronically controlled rear-axle limited-slip differential with Drift Mode (a first for an AMG SUV). The GLC 53 can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds (with the Race Start AMG Dynamic Plus Package). The electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h can be raised to 270km/h with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.

The revised 3.0-litre inline-six turbo engine gets a new cylinder head, larger intake, intercooler, and optimised turbocharger. It also benefits from a 48-volt second-generation integrated starter-generator, and a new exhaust system.

Other key features include the AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptive damping and selectable Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ modes, AMG high-performance brakes (390 x 36mm front discs with four-piston callipers and 360 x 26mm rear discs), standard rear-axle steering (with a maximum angle of 2.5 degrees), five AMG Dynamic Select driving programs, and the Race mode from the AMG Dynamic Plus package.

The 2027 iteration gets an optional Golden Accents package that adds exclusive tech-gold highlights to the GLC 53, and is available for one year from launch. On the outside, it includes matte black 21-inch AMG forged wheels with gold accents, gloss black brake calipers, and subtle AMG decals, as well as high-gloss black elements via the AMG Night Package.

AMG Design Plus enhances the sporty stance with an enlarged front splitter, roof spoiler, and diffuser blades.

The interior highlights are AMG sports seats in black leather with tech-gold stitching, matching accents on the door panels and dashboard, carbon-fibre trim with metallic threads, illuminated AMG door sills, and decorative floor mats.
