Nissan has unveiled the redesigned Leaf for the global market, which is now a sleeker crossover instead of a hatchback. It features slim, boomerang-shaped headlights with integrated daytime running lights and a connecting lightbar, a closed-off grille, and a bumper with lower cladding and a large central vent. The car rides on 19-inch wheels and uses the CMF-EV platform from the Ariya. The Leaf's sides reveal more aerodynamic curves, with a rounded hood leading to a flatter section. Black cladding on wheel arches and lower doors adds to the look. The charging flap is on the front fender, and a high shoulder line flows to a noticeable rear haunch. The new Leaf features flush front door handles and C-pillar-mounted rear handles. The North American version of the new Leaf will become the company's first EV with a built-in NACS charging port, providing convenient Tesla Supercharger access. In addition, the redesigned Leaf will incorporate a new 3-in-1 EV powertrain aimed at enhancing efficiency and optimising space.

This update is expected to offer notable improvements in range compared to its predecessor. It’s worth noting that more details about the car are set to be announced mid-year.

Nissan India Updates

Nissan has announced plans to grow its Indian vehicle range with two models, as previewed in Yokohama. The first is a compact MPV slated for launch later this year. The second is a compact SUV that is scheduled to go on sale by FY2026. Both models will be produced at Nissan's Chennai plant.

While Nissan hasn't confirmed the mechanical details, the upcoming MPV will sit on the same platform as the Triber and may have the same powertrain. The Triber packs a 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers 71bhp and 96Nm and is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The Nissan MPV is expected to be priced higher than the Triber, which begins at Rs 6.10 lakh (ex-showroom).
