Audi has confirmed that its new entry-level electric car will go by the name A2 e-tron. The new model will revive a familiar A2 nameplate of the hatchback sold between 1999 and 2005 as an ICE-powered model, but with an electric twist under Audi’s e-tron lineup. The compact battery-powered car will be manufactured in Ingolstadt, Germany. It is set to make its global debut in fall 2026, marking a notable step in the brand’s affordable electric mobility solutions.

Commenting on the model, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said, 'We’ve listened. Our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life. The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that – efficient, compact, and confident. We’re making entry into the electric Audi world easier and more relevant than ever.'
The most recent teaser from Audi does not show much beyond a shadowy silhouette. Industry reports, however, suggest that the upcoming A2 e-tron will have proportions similar to the original A2 and feature a tall, compact, and city-friendly appearance. It is also expected to carry forward the A2’s core philosophy of efficiency, reimagined for the electric era through the use of lightweight components and enhanced aerodynamics. With a strong focus on airflow optimisation and energy management, the A2 e-tron aims to maximise range while staying true to its efficiency-driven roots.
The new Audi A2 e-tron is expected to be underpinned by Volkswagen Group’s MEB EV platform, which also supports models such as the ID.3. While official specifications are yet to be disclosed, the upcoming EV in its higher-spec version could deliver a range close to 500 kilometres. The EV is slated for a global debut in Autumn 2026.
