The Audi SQ7 TDI has made its debut with three turbo chargers and lots of diesel power.

Audi has just introduced the Q7 model line with an ‘S’ symbol. Everybody knows adding S to anything makes it better!

The numbers are 435bhp, 900Nm of torque, 4.0L V8 TDI Diesel engine with three turbo chargers. And that makes it really very fast, well obviously it is now the most powerful diesel powered SUV in the world.

“Following the launch of the successful SQ5*, we are now also applying the concept of a diesel-engined S model to the Q7 model line. So equipped, the SQ7 TDI with a V8 TDI engine achieves the consumption figures of a six-cylinder. The new technology solution of the electric powered compressor in the SQ7 TDI is a world first in the competitive environment,” said Dr. Stefan Knirsch, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Technical Development.

Its also the worlds first production car with an electric powered compressor turbo that fills in the gap between the main two turbos. In principle, a turbo charger need some sort of air to spool the turbine. Usually the exhaust gas or an air intake fed into the turbo to spool and generate more power. The only downside is the car needs to be moving at a certain rpm before the turbo can actually be beneficial. Now the 3rd turbo on the SQ7 TDI world similarly, but doesn’t need air to spool it. It is powered by a small onboard 48-volt electric subsystem that spools it, witchcraft happens and you go faster. Thus eliminating any turbo lag.

The engine is mated to Audi’s 8-speed Tip-tronic automatic gearbox tuned specifically to Audi’s ‘S’ specification. The SQ7 sits on 285/45 R20 inch wheels with a 22 option also on offer.

Its highly possible that the SQ7 TDI will never come to India thanks to the Indian government’s disapproval of big diesel engines.
