Bentley Bentayga gets the world's largest carbon fibre wheel in production

The new 22-inch carbon wheel will be available to order as an accessory by Mulliner towards the end of the year.
Folks at Crewe have perhaps come up with the ultimate accessory for the Bentayga that offers a combination of luxury and utility – a 22-inch pure carbon fibre wheel that's also the largest of its kind in production in the world, according to Bentley! It's also the culmination of years worth of development work Bentley undertook with globally-renowned composite specialist Bucci Composites.
Apart from the initial 6kgs reduction of unsprung mass per wheel it offers, it's also undergone extensive testing by the TÜV (Technischer Überwachungsverein – Technical Inspection Association) to become the first carbon wheel ever to pass all tests. The standard battery of tests includes biaxial stress testing, radial and lateral impact testing for simulating potholes and cobblestones, tyre overpressure and excessive torque tests exceeding the permitted limits.
The test results have also revealed the carbon wheel's significantly higher impact withstanding capability in a crash as compared to a conventional aluminium wheel. As for some other technological benefits, the carbon wheel, or any composite wheel for that matter, offers more rigidity, improved braking (due to lower unsprung mass), and lesser tyre wear compared to an aluminium wheel rim.
The new carbon wheel will be available to order in late 2021.
