BMW has taken the wraps off its striking new Concept Speedtop at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, unveiling a bold three-door design that pays tribute to open-top motoring with a modern twist. This sleek concept blends classic roadster proportions with futuristic styling cues and a low-slung, wide stance. The standout feature is its unique Moonstone leather seats, which add a layer of luxury and craftsmanship to the minimalist interior. With its removable roof, sculpted bodywork, and driver-centric cockpit, the Concept Speedtop embodies BMW’s vision for a purist performance machine with emotional appeal. Though still a design study, it hints at the brand’s evolving approach to sporty convertibles in the electric era.

Sharing his thoughts on the new Concept, Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design, said, 'A true BMW exudes dynamism and elegance even when it is standing still. And that is also the case with our new concept car. The BMW Concept Speedtop is characterised first of all by its profile. It is very unique in the automotive industry. In this way, we have created an exclamation mark for our entire lineup of vehicles, especially for the Touring models.'
The BMW Concept Speedtop carries forward the striking design language of the Skytop and is set to be produced in a highly exclusive, limited-run series of 70 units, aimed at discerning collectors. Its bold front end features a distinct V-shaped layout with a shark-nose profile, sleek headlamps, and an illuminated kidney grille – all combining to create a commanding visual identity.
The BMW Concept Speedtop presents a cabin that exudes bespoke craftsmanship and exclusivity, while drawing inspiration from the Skytop and the 8 Series Coupe, which serves as the base for both. The interior features a striking contrast of materials and tones – Sundown Maroon leather covers the upper dashboard, centre console, and top portions of the doors, while Moonstone White leather finishes the seats and lower door panels, creating a refined visual balance. A slender strip of ambient lighting runs along the roof liner, echoing the vehicle’s sculpted central spine, and bespoke “Speedtop” badging appears throughout the cabin to emphasise its limited-edition nature.
While the German carmaker has not revealed complete technical specifications, it has confirmed that the Speedtop will be powered by its most potent production V8 engine to date. This likely points to the same 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 found in the Skytop, which generates 617bhp and is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and xDrive all-wheel drive for optimised performance.

Limited to 70 hand-crafted units, the Speedtop is even rarer than its predecessor. Though pricing has yet to be announced, expectations are that it will command a price similar to the Skytop’s reported USD 500,000-plus range. BMW has opened the order books, positioning the Speedtop as an ultra-exclusive offering for discerning collectors.
