Chevrolet Cruze prices slashed

Chevrolet has revised the prices of the new Cruze, roughly a month after its launch in the market. The D-segment sedan is now priced between Rs 13.95 lakh and Rs 16.95 lakh. 

Hardly a month after its launch, the Chevrolet Cruze facelift has received a massive price cut across its variants. At the time of its launch, the new Cruze was priced between Rs 14.68 lakh and Rs 17.81 lakh. Thanks to the revision in prices though, the entry level variant can be had for Rs 13.95 lakh while the top-end trim at Rs 16.95 lakh is now cheaper by Rs 86,000!

Compared to its rivals, the new Cruze makes for an impressive value for money proposition. The entry-level diesel variant of the Skoda Octavia is priced at Rs 17.90 lakh, meaning the Cruze now undercuts it by a whopping Rs 3.95 lakh. The price difference between top-end diesel automatic versions of both the cars is even bigger – Rs 4.78 lakh! Similarly, the Hyundai Elantra – which is priced between Rs 15.07 lakh (base diesel) and Rs 18.44 lakh (top-end automatic) is also significantly expensive.

The segment-leader, Toyota Corolla Altis (diesel), is also priced higher than the new Cruze - the base model Corolla Altis diesel is priced at Rs 14.22 lakh. The Toyota’s top-end diesel variant at Rs 15.82 lakh may be cheaper than that of the Cruze but then, it does not have an automatic gearbox on offer.

Chevrolet’s decision to slash the prices of the Cruze should certainly help push the sales of the slow-selling sedan. The facelifted model also comes with a raft of new features and equipment  such as a 7-inch My-Link touchscreen infotainment system, touch controls for air-conditioning system, projector fog lamps etc. Under the hood, the car comes fitted with a 2.0-litre VCDi turbocharged diesel engine that produces 164bhp of max power and 380Nm of peak-torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.
