The Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV has been spotted without any camouflage for the first time ahead of its launch in India. The spy pictures show several design elements, such as square-like LED headlights, a coupe-style roofline, a raked rear windscreen, thick cladding on the door sills and rear bumper, wraparound taillights, and multi-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels. There aren't any spy photos of the interior at this time, but the upcoming SUV is likely to share equipment with its siblings, the C3 hatchback and the C3 Aircross SUV. It may sport a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated front seats, and keyless entry. For those unaware, the Citroen Basalt made its debut as a concept this March, but the manufacturer stated that the production model would be available in India in the second part of the year. Let's delve into some more details of the upcoming SUV.

Citroen Basalt: Under the Bonnet

The production-spec Basalt is likely to have the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that powers both the Citroen C3 and C3 Aircross. The motor boasts an ultimate power output of 108bhp and a peak torque of 189Nm with a manual or automatic gearbox. While the firm isn't going to provide a diesel engine, it could offer an electric version of the coupe SUV in the future.

Citroen Basalt: Safety Suite and Price

The new Basalt from Citroen is reported to come with some standard safety features such as a hill hold assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system, six airbags, a rearview camera, and parking sensors. In terms of price, the SUV is expected to be affordable in the segment, with a starting price of Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon its introduction, the Basalt will directly compete with the upcoming Tata Curvv. It will also serve as an alternative to models like the Skoda Kushaq, the Hyundai Creta, the Honda Elevate, and the MG Astor.
