As part of its C-Cubed programme, Citroen India has introduced its finest model: an SUV coupe that showcases the stylish Basalt Vision concept. According to rumours, the Basalt Vision will look much like the final production SUV since it borrows heavily from the C3 lineup, which is well-known in India. This comes as Citroen’s second India-made SUV is set to be introduced to the Indian market. Although it differs from its usual naming procedure used throughout the rest of the C3 series, Citroen has confirmed that the Basalt name will remain for the production vehicle.

Citroen Basalt Vision SUV-Coupe Concept: Design

The Basalt Vision looks a lot like Citroen's small SUV, the C3 Aircross, especially from the front. This is because it is built on the same Smart Car chassis. Although it comes with a distinctive C3 Split headlight design, the car ditches the regular halogen headlamps in favour of projector ones. The air vents below have the same squared-off form as the Aircross, but the fog lights seem more angular.

Turning to the side view, the Basalt Vision and the C3 Aircross share a lot of bodywork, including the creases on the fenders, cutouts on the lower door, and squared-out wheel arches. The roofline follows a smooth downward slope after the B-pillar and ends with an integrated spoiler lip at the edge of the tailboard, which is the first point of visible variation. The concept is made even more eye-catching with glossy cladding around the bottom half of the body and the wheel wells.

The Basalt Vision has a bigger squared-off taillight design that harkens back to the Citroen C3 Aircross units and houses updated internals. Cladding is a major part of the rear bumper, and a skid plate element only serves to enhance its rough charm.

While we don't yet know much about the Basalt's interior, we can expect it to share a dashboard with the C3 Aircross.

Citroen Basalt Vision SUV-Coupe Concept: Powertrain

It is powered by the same 110bhp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine found in existing C-Cubed models, and will come with an automatic or manual transmission. Not only that, the petrol-powered model will be joined in the lineup by an all-electric version about six months later.

The Basalt is set to be launched in India in the second half of 2024, according to Citroen. When it arrives in the market, this SUV-coupe will be sitting above the C3 Aircross and competing with products like the forthcoming Tata Curvv.
