Facelift Maruti Swift promises to reduce fuel bills

India’s number 1 car maker Maruti Suzuki India launched the face lifted Maruti Swift, which is more frugal by 10 per cent and is aggressively priced between Rs 4.42 lakh and Rs 6.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The Swift retains the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. The petrol powerplant pumps out 83.3bhp, 2bhp less than the outgoing model, but there is a 9.7 per cent jump in fuel economy pushing the figures to 20.4 km/l from 18.6 km/l, based on ARAI figures.

Good news for potential Maruti Swift diesel buyers as Maruti has left the power output untouched, 74 bhp, while the fuel efficiency numbers are up by 10 per cent -- 25.2km/l from 22.9km/l, again based on ARAI figures.

The Maruti Swift comes with a few design changes like revised front bumper, bezel fog lamps and alloy wheel design. The cabin design is now accentuated with sporty silver accents and comes with push start button. It also comes with electric retractable ORVMs with turn indicators, reverse parking sensor, tilt steering wheel, Bluetooth enabled audio system, additional reading lamp for rear passengers and comfortable bucket seats in front. For convenience, the new Swift is equipped with 60:40 split seats and in safety department it has new generation ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution).

On the occasion, R S Kalsi, executive director marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India, said, "We have over 12 lakh Swift owners. The Swift now comes with improved fuel efficiency of 10 per cent and a rich equipment list like push start button, a 60:40 split rear seat, electric retractable outside mirrors, reverse parking sensor etc. With this change, we retain the DNA of the Swift and yet add features to make excitement come alive. The reborn Swift is a tribute to the bestseller of the industry and in line with Maruti Suzuki's commitment to the customers to keep refining our models."
