The Swift has been in the Indian market for 20 years, marking a significant milestone for Maruti Suzuki. Since its launch, the hatchback has developed into one of the brand's most popular models, surpassing the 30 lakh sales mark in India alone. There have been notable improvements with every generation. The original Swift made its debut in 2005, and its successors followed in 2011, 2018, and 2023. The model, which is in its fourth generation, accounts for almost 10% of Maruti Suzuki's domestic sales volume and commands an impressive 31% share in its category.
The Swift is currently available at prices ranging from Rs 6.49 lakh to Rs 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom). There are nine exterior colour options to choose from, including single-tone and dual-tone finishes such as Pearl Arctic White, Sizzling Red, and Lustre Blue with a black roof for contrast.
The new Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine that produces 80bhp and 112Nm of torque – figures slightly lower than those of the earlier K-Series unit. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. The carmaker claims the manual variant returns 24.80km/l, while the AMT version is slightly more efficient at 25.75km/l.

A factory-fitted CNG version is also available, generating 69bhp and 101.8Nm of torque at 2,900rpm. It is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and is rated at an impressive 32.85km/kg, according to ARAI.
The cabin of the fourth-generation Swift is both technologically advanced and practical. Key features include an Arkamys audio system, a Type-C charger, automatic air conditioning, a push-start button, and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, the vehicle has remote keyless entry and rear AC vents.
With six airbags, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control (ESC), anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution (ABS with EBD), hill start assist, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, and seatbelt reminders for each seat, the Swift sets the standard for safety in this class.
One of Maruti's best-selling models, the Swift is a serious competitor in the Indian hatchback market.
