The return of Ford to India has been a topic of discussion since it left in 2021. The American automaker has not announced anything, but the continual series of trademarks for India has sparked rumours of its comeback. According to the trademark-filling that has surfaced online, the company intends to bring the Territory SUV to India. The mid-size SUV goes by the name Equator Sport in some international markets, while it is called the Territory in countries like Vietnam, China Mexico, and South Africa.

The SUV has a strong road presence, featuring a huge honeycomb grille, split headlights, C-shaped LED DRLs, and large alloy wheels. It is equipped with two 12.3-inch screens, an ADAS suite, connected technologies, a large boot, six airbags, and a panoramic sunroof. On the powertrain front, the mid-size Ford model comes with a 1.5-litre (167.6bhp) and a 1.8-litre (187.4bhp) Ecoboost 4-cylinder engine options. Though there's no official confirmation, industry reports suggest Ford may introduce the mid-size SUV here by the end of next year. In India, the model will compete with the Tata Harrier, the Safari, and the Mahindra XUV700. Let's take a closer look at some other trademark filings by the American automaker for our market.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

Ford trademarked the Mustang Mach-E name for India in February of this year. While there is no official report, Mustang Mach-E may come to India as a completely built-up unit (CBU) in sync with an import regulation that allows the entry of up to 2,500 units without homologation. Being a CBU, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is likely to fetch a hefty price tag of about Rs 70 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with models such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE, the BMW iX, and the Audi Q8 e-tron.

Ford Endeavour

The American carmaker submitted the patent for the new Endeavour in January. The SUV, like the Mustang Mach-E, is likely to enter India as a CBU, leading to a higher price tag. It will lock horns with cars such as the Toyota Fortuner and the MG Gloster. The new Ford Endeavour was recently spotted for the first time in India, exposing several important design cues like an upright tailgate, an updated rear bumper, and inverted L-shaped LED tail lamps
