Hyundai, which previously outlined its plan to launch 26 new models in India by FY2030, is now beginning to offer clearer hints about what’s in the pipeline. The brand has unveiled a rugged new off-road concept called the Crater, which will make its global debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. The concept appears to signal Hyundai’s intention to develop a dedicated off-road SUV tailored for the Indian market.
While specific details remain under wraps for now, industry reports suggest that the upcoming off-roader will be strategically priced and positioned to take on established players in its segment. It will help Hyundai to break into the new segment currently dominated by brands like Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra. Here's all you need to know about the new Hyundai Crater Concept.

The Hyundai Crater Concept boasts a commanding design language, with a sharp and boxy silhouette. It features a sealed grille (hinting at the SUV's possible electric nature) and sleek DRLs, as well as four distinctive illuminated dots that sit proudly at the centre. The slim headlamp strip integrated above the heavy-duty bumper adds to the purposeful look. There’s also a contoured bonnet, paired with contrasting A-pillar panels, and four auxiliary lamps mounted near the rack. The SUV has beefy tyres that seem suitable for dirt trails and rocky surfaces.

The rear continues the adventure-ready theme through its muscular fenders, upright taillamps, and robust bumper with a large skid plate.

Although Hyundai hasn’t issued an official confirmation, the Crater Concept is widely expected to preview the dedicated off-road SUV the brand is developing for India, alongside an MPV and an EV that are also in the pipeline. The first of Hyundai’s 26 planned launches for the Indian market has already arrived in the form of the updated Venue, which recently went on sale at a starting price of Rs 7.90 lakh.
