The new Hyundai Exter SUV is almost here as it is just a day away from its launch in the Indian market. The upcoming model is the South Korean manufacturer's smallest sports utility vehicle. With its sights set firmly on rivals such as the Tata Punch, the Citroen C3, the Nissan Magnite, the Renault Kiger as well as the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, the Exter SUV will go on sale with one petrol engine and one CNG option on offer. Recently, Hyundai flagged off the assembly of the upcoming micro SUV at its manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, the first unit of which was rolled out in the signature Ranger Khaki colour. While the price announcement will happen on D-Day (July 10), expect the SUV to retail between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. Prices are ex-showroom.

As we already know, the Exter SUV draws design inspiration from the Hyundai Aura and the Venue. Up front, the SUV is defined by an upright nose, a new parametric grille, square-shaped headlamps, and H-shaped LED daytime running lights.

When viewed from the side, the SUV gets squared-off wheel arches, tail roof rails, dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels, and body cladding. The rear end, on the other hand, is shaped by an integrated roof spoiler, a shark-fin antenna, a rear wiper, H-shaped LED taillamps, and a tailboard with a slanted rear glass. In addition to the Ranger Khaki colour, the Exter will also be offered in Atlas White, Fiery Red, Titan Grey, and Starry Night options.

6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill assist, three-point seat belts and reminders for all five seats, and a rear parking camera are among the safety features.

Hyundai Exter SUV: Engine and Gearbox

Once launched, the new SUV will get a choice of one petrol and one CNG fuel option. A 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine will churn out 82bhp of maximum power and 114Nm of peak torque, whereas a 1.2-litre Bi-Fuel Kappa petrol with CNG option is expected to make 68bhp and 95.2Nm. Transmission duties on the CNG version will be taken care of by a manual gearbox, whereas the petrol unit will come mated to an option of a five-speed manual as well as an AMT automatic transmission.
