Verna, Creta, and Tucson Fuel Hyundai India's Retail Sales Growth to 5% in June

The total sales of Hyundai India for the past month stood at 65,601 units. On July 10, the carmaker is set to launch the much-awaited Exter SUV in the Indian market, which is estimated to have a starting price of Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Motor India has announced its sales data for the past month. In June 2023, the carmaker sold a total of 65,601 units, compared to 62,351 units at the same time last year, which gave it a YoY growth of 5.21%. Domestically, Hyundai sold 50,001 vehicles in India, as opposed to 49,001 during the same month in 2022, representing a marginal rise of 2.04%. In terms of exports, the major automaker recorded growth as well. It shipped 15,600 units in June 2023, which provided a gain of 16.85% over 13,350 units dispatched in the same month in 2022. According to HMI, the deliveries above 50,000 units in the previous month depict strong customer satisfaction. The carmaker also claimed that in the first half of CY23, it achieved leadership positions in each of its respective segments with the Verna, the Creta, and the Tucson.

Hyundai India: Sales May 2023

In May 2023, HMI recorded total sales of 59,601 units, as against 51,263 units at the same time last year, an overall increase of 16.26%. Moving to the domestic segment, the firm announced a jump of 14.91% with 48,601 units in May 2023, as opposed to 42,293 units during the same time in 2022. Additionally, the export figure for May 2023 rose by 22.63% in May this year as the company shipped 11,000 units, compared to 8,970 units during the same time in 2022.

Hyundai Exter SUV: Key Highlights

Hyundai is gearing up to introduce the Exter in India on July 10. For propulsion, the upcoming Micro-SUV will employ either petrol or CNG drivetrain. A 1.2-litre, four-cylinder NA petrol engine would provide 82bhp of maximum power and 114Nm of peak torque, while a 1.2-litre Bi-Fuel Kappa petrol with CNG, is anticipated to produce 68bhp and 95.2Nm. The CNG version will have a manual gearbox, while the petrol variant will include a five-speed manual or an AMT automated gearbox. 

There are still a few days for the price announcement, but industry reports are doing rounds on the internet that the brand-new SUV will fall under the price bracket of Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). After the launch, it will rival the likes of the Renault Kiger, the Tata Punch, the Citroen C3, the Nissan Magnite, etc.
