Independence Day 2023: PM Modi Arrives in Range Rover Sentinel SUV at Red Fort

Independence Day 2023: During India's 77th Independence Day celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Red Fort in his highly armoured Range Rover Sentinel SUV. This vehicle is known as the Range Rover Sentinel SUV and is manufactured by Land Rover, which is owned by Tata Motors. This SUV was developed with safety as a top priority, so its passengers will feel completely safe at all times. The Range Rover Sentinel SUV is outfitted with a 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 engine, resulting in a 40bhp  boost compared to its V6 iteration. The vehicle's protection cell is approved for full ballistic and blast protection and is built to fulfil demanding whole-vehicle standards. The vehicle's shell is designed to survive fragmentation from modern and unconventional attacks, such as IEDs.

Range Rover Sentinel: Design

Range Rover Sentinel is a luxury SUV built by Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations with a heavy emphasis on protection. The SUV is essentially impenetrable thanks to its full-body armour and armoured glass (capable of stopping high-velocity armour-piercing bullets) used throughout.  Land Rover claims that its armour on the sides, roof, and under-floor of the vehicle is up to European requirements and can survive blasts from even the most novel improvised explosive devices (IEDs). 

To the typical person, however, looking at this car from the outside, none of this is noticeable. Aside from the flashing LED lights discreetly integrated into its bumpers and the available Black Pack designed to make it look even more serious, there are no other noticeable alterations to its appearance.

Range Rover Sentinel: Interior

There is nothing unusual on the inside of the Sentinel. Classified information such as the location of hidden compartments housing rare weapons and access controls remains unknown. Given the gravity of their positions, world leaders should be able to ride in peace and serenity to each destination. Updates to the premium, armoured SUV include additional legroom, headroom, and two 10-inch touchscreen infotainment displays for the rear passengers. 

Range Rover Sentinel: Engine

The 5.0-litre V8 supercharged petrol engine produces 375bhp, which is significantly less power than what you'd receive in the Range Rover SVAutobiography Ultimate (which uses the same engine). It's probably been toned down to increase fuel efficiency and decrease pit stops. The Range Rover Sentinel SUV is built to handle any terrain and is equipped to operate in all kinds of weather. With a top speed of 193km/h, a 0–100km/h acceleration time of 10.4 seconds, and the ability to carry over a tonne of armour plate and glass, it is well suited to transport the Prime Minister of India.

The Sentinel also has run-flat all-terrain tyres. Even with a puncture, the vehicle can travel up to 80km at a speed of up to 80km/h. Land Rover has also strengthened its chassis and suspension to carry more than 4.4 tonnes. The Sentinel can be outfitted with a public address system and a front window that rolls down to a maximum of 150mm in order to distribute or receive documents.

Range Rover Sentinel: Price
