Isuzu D Max Electric Concept Front

Isuzu has revealed its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) concept, which will debut at the upcoming Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand (March 27 – April 7). The new prototype is an electric version of the D-Max pickup truck, which is already on sale in India with a starting price of Rs 11.20 lakh (ex-showroom). The Japanese firm states that the electric vehicle will enter production in 2025 for Europe. As of now, there is no information available for our market. The D-Max BEV concept stands out from the conventional pickup version with some EV-inspired design characteristics. These consist of blue highlights along the length of the front air intakes and a closed-off grille. Aside from this, the pickup truck looks similar to the ICE model. While we don't have any interior pictures yet, market speculation suggests that it will be more or less comparable to its sibling. Let's dig deep into some more details of Isuzu's maiden electric vehicle.

Isuzu D-Max BEV Concept: Technical Details

Isuzu claims that the zero-emission pickup vehicle is powered by a 66.9kWh lithium-ion battery and two electric motors placed on each axle. The front electric motor delivers 54bhp and 108Nm, whereas the rear electric motor produces 121bhp and 217Nm. This brings the vehicle's total output to 174bhp and 325Nm, which is higher than the standard 1.9-litre diesel variant.

The D-Max BEV comes with a full-time 4WD system and a top speed of nearly 130km/h. Though details on the range are currently unknown, Isuzu assures a high towing capacity and a strong structure, which will enable the electric model to match the performance of the diesel version. The Japanese automaker indicates that the D-Max BEV will feature a payload capacity equal to that of its diesel-based sibling.

Isuzu D-Max BEV Concept: Availability

As stated, the final model will be sold initially in Europe, then in Thailand, the UK, and Australia. According to the automaker, the vehicle's release would depend on the demands of the market and the development of EV charging infrastructure.

Isuzu D-Max Prototype with Mild Hybrid Diesel

Alongside the electric concept, Isuzu displayed a D-Max Hi-Lander MHEV prototype. The prototype includes a turbo diesel motor and a 48-volt mild hybrid system. There isn't much information available about this model from the Japanese automaker, but details about the specifications and production timeline are expected to emerge sooner or later.
