After a long wait, Fiat Chrysler Automotive has finally launched the Jeep Compass in India at a starting price (ex-showroom, Delhi) of Rs 14.95 lakh for the base petrol variant. The top-of-the-line 4x4 diesel trim carries a sticker price of Rs 20.65 lakh. The launch of the Compass makes it the most affordable Jeep offering in the market today. Jeep commence production of the new Compass at its Ranjangaon factory in Pune making it the only Jeep to be produced in India. Bookings for the Jeep Compass had already commenced last month.

The Jeep Compass comes with the option of a petrol as well as a diesel motor. The 1.4-litre Multiair petrol motor churns out 160bhp and 250Nm. This engine comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The diesel, on the other hand, is a 2.0-litre turbocharged motor that produces 172bhp and 350Nm. The diesel only comes with a 6-speed manual transmission. Jeep is expected to launch a diesel automatic at a later stage. To ensure that the Compass is capable off the tarmac, it comes with four driving modes – Auto, Snow, Sand, and Mud.

On the inside, the Jeep Compass is washed in a beige-black colour scheme. It comes fitted with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic headlamps with DRLs, height adjustable driver seat, turn sensitive fog lamps and more. Safety features include 6 airbags, ABS, ESP, hill start assist and more.

For the Compass, Jeep has formed its India factory in Ranjangaon as its production base and will export the car to all RHD markets. In India, the Jeep Compass will compete against the Hyundai Tucson.

Jeep has already received over 5,000 orders for the Compass with most of the customers opting diesel over the petrol variant. As a result, the firm will commence deliveries of the diesel version first, while petrol models will be dispatched subsequently.
