The new GST regime replaces the old multi-slab system and compensation cess with a simplified two-slab structure. It introduces a two-slab tax rate: 18% for small cars (that meet specific size and engine criteria) and a flat 40% for mid-size cars, large cars, and SUVs, without any additional cess.

Jeep’s existing lineup in India consists of SUVs over 4 metres long with engines larger than 1.5 litres. Under the old tax system, these vehicles faced up to 50% tax (28% GST plus up to 22% cess). However, the new flat 40% tax with no cess has brought much relief to buyers of these SUVs by offering savings of about 10%, leading to more affordable prices.
