Kia has introduced a CNG option for its popular family mover, the Carens, in India, making it the brand's first-ever model to feature this powertrain. The CNG-powered Carens, aimed primarily at fleet operators and budget-conscious families, will be sold alongside the existing diesel and petrol engine options. It will be offered on the Premium (O) trim of the Carens, priced at Rs 11.77 lakh (ex-showroom). The CNG kit comes as an optional dealer-level fitment, and is Rs 77,900 more expensive than the corresponding Premium (O) Petrol MT variant, which is priced at Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The introduction of the CNG variant helps the Carens to strengthen its position among the established rivals in the three-row CNG segment, including the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG and XL6 CNG. Here's all you need to know about the Kia Carens CNG.
The Kia Carens CNG draws power from the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. While Kia has yet to disclose the official performance and mileage figures for the CNG variant, the unit, while using petrol, produces around 113bhp and 144Nm. Compared to this, the CNG variant is expected to deliver marginally lower power figures, which is characteristic of such fuel systems, while offering superior fuel efficiency.

It is important to note that the CNG kit on the Carens MPV is not a factory-fitted unit. Instead, it is a government-approved kit sourced from Lovato, a renowned third-party CNG solutions provider. The kit will be installed at authorised Kia dealerships. It is also supported by a third-party warranty of three years or 1,00,000 km (whichever comes first).
Following the launch of the Carens Clavis, the standard Carens is now available only in the Premium (O) trim. It is a well-equipped MPV, with features such as keyless entry, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, semi-leatherette upholstery, and a rearview camera.
