Kia EV9 Electric SUV Gets 541 Km Range, Level 3 ADAS

Kia has disclosed the specifications, range, and other features of the EV9 Electric SUV ahead of the launch in markets. The model will reportedly have its official launch in select markets later this year.

Kia revealed the EV9 in the concept version at the Auto Expo 2023 in India. Now, the carmaker has uncloaked its range, specifications, and other features for intended customers ahead of the launch. The upcoming model is based on the E-GMP (electric global modular platform), which also supports the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. According to market speculation, the India-bound EV9 SUV will go into production later this year and be launched by 2024 in India. In the carmaker's Indian lineup, the upcoming model will sit above the Kia EV6. Aside from disclosing specifications and range, Kia has also unveiled the EV9 GT-Line variant, which has slightly sportier looks than its standard counterpart. Here are the complete details concerning the specifications, range, and more of the upcoming SUV. 

Kia EV9: Mechanical Details 

The upcoming Kia EV9 SUV will be accessible with both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations. A 76.1kWh battery is included with the base RWD model. The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.2 seconds, thanks to the engine, producing 218bhp and 350Nm, driving the rear wheels. The RWD Long Range model has a 99.8kWh battery pack, capable of delivering 204bhp and 350Nm. It will enable the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 9.4 seconds. The AWD version has two motors, one for each axle, with a total output of 385bhp and 600Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 6.0 seconds. The battery in this version is 99.8kWh as well.

Only the Long Range RWD Kia EV9 is said to have an estimated range of 541 Kilometre as per WLTP standards. The Kia EV9 can be charged to give a range of 239 kilometres in just 15 minutes using an 800-volt charging device. Additionally, Kia will release an EV9 GT Performance model, details of which will be released later.

The Kia EV9 GT-line model gets ADAS. It enables hands-free navigation on highways without supervision. The highway driving pilot for the ADAS system will offer Level 3 automated driving, potentially allowing the driver to operate the vehicle hands-free. 15 sensors, including two lidars, radar, and cameras with a 360-degree field of vision, are used by the ADAS to function.

Kia EV9: Dimensions & Variants

Dimensionally, the upcoming model is 5,010mm in length, 1,980mm in width, and 1,755mm in height, and it has a 3,100mm wheelbase. The carmaker will offer the SUV with 19-inch, 20-inch, or 21-inch wheels, depending on the region and variant chosen. The Kia EV9 will be available in the Standard and GT-Line versions.

Outside, the SUV boasts its signature Digital Tiger Face that according to the carmaker, exudes its individuality. It is complemented by vertical headlights and the Digital Pattern Lighting Grille. The Digital Tiger Face also has 'Star Map' LED daylight running lights (DRL) and two groups of little cube lamps next to each headlamp. Kia has revealed the GT-line model design in addition to the standard model. The GT-line model features a unique black colour palette that sets it apart from its standard version. The front and back bumpers, wheels, and roof rack are all changed in this variant. The GT-line features an exclusive Digital Pattern Lighting Grille and is 25mm taller than the standard model.

The twin-screen setup on the dashboard emphasizes the width of the vehicle. Three sets of seats are available in the Kia EV9, with options for six and seven-seat configurations. The highlight is the second row's swivel seats, which can turn a full 180 degrees to face the third row. Its interior is devoid of leather. It heavily relies on renewable resources, including maize, sugar cane, natural oils, and other bio-based materials.

Kia EV9: Launch Timeline

Later this year, Kia intends to launch the EV9 in countries including the USA, Europe, Korea, and others. The EV9 GT version will make its premiere in 2025. There is no information about the introduction of the Kia EV9 in India. Currently, the carmaker sells the EV6 in the Indian market.
