Mahindra Thar 5 Door Spotted Testing

With the new Thar 5-door's launch date approaching soon, the latest round of spy photos provides new details about the luxury off-roader. This time, a test mule and many other Mahindra test vehicles were seen at what appeared to be a dealer yard. According to recent spy shots, the Mahindra Thar 5-door will likely come equipped with a dual-pane sunroof. However, this feature might only be available on the top-of-the-line variant of the SUV. The model was previously observed with a single-pane sunroof, expected to be offered with the mid-spec variants. Here's all you need to know about the soon-to-be-launched Thar 5-door.

Design-wise, the Mahindra Thar 5-door will get updated LED tail lamps, new alloy wheels, redesigned bodywork, and circular LED headlights with new daytime running lights. The 5-door model will feature two extra back doors and a longer wheelbase than its 3-door sibling, but it will still have the same boxy shape. In addition, the rear door handles of the SUV will be merged into the C-pillar. Similar to the 3-door version, Mahindra will probably provide the Thar 5-door with a fixed metal top.

Mahindra Thar 5-door: Powertrain Options

The Mahindra Thar 5-door is anticipated to feature the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine options as the Thar 3-door. While the former produces 150bhp of maximum power and 320Nm of torque, the latter churns out a maximum power output of 130bhp and a peak torque of 300Nm. Both a six-speed manual and an automatic gearbox may be available for the car.

Mahindra Thar 5-door: Feature List

Based on the earlier spy images, the car is likely to boast a redesigned dashboard with a digital instrument console and a larger free-standing touchscreen infotainment system. The feature set will comprise a rear centre armrest, a manual day/night IRVM, connected car features via AdrenoX, rear AC vents, button start-stop, electrically retractable ORVMs, and dual-zone climate control.

The Thar 5-door's safety package will include front parking sensors, a 360-degree surround view system, and six airbags. All four wheels should be fitted with disc brakes on higher-spec models. Apart from this, it will also gain ADAS, which is a collection of active safety technologies like driver drowsiness alert, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking.

Mahindra Thar 5-door: Expected Price

The current-generation Mahindra Thar retails for between Rs 11.35 lakh and Rs 17.60 lakh in India. Although the homegrown manufacturer has not released any official statement, the new Thar is anticipated to hit the Indian market on August 15. With significant modifications over the 3-door model, the 5-door version is anticipated to be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 18 lakh. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom. Upon launch, the SUV will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the Force Gurkha 5-door.
