The Mahindra XEV 9S, launched late last year, now features a new Custom drive mode, in addition to the existing Default, Everyday, Range, and Race modes. This update comes in response to feedback regarding the SUV’s soft adaptive suspension, particularly on the Pack Three trim. Currently, the Custom drive mode is exclusive to XEV 9S Pack Three variants equipped with adaptive dampers. Here’s a closer look at what the new Custom drive mode offers and how it enhances both comfort and performance for Mahindra XEV 9S drivers.

The new Custom drive mode in the Mahindra XEV 9S has been introduced to address feedback about the softer adaptive suspension offered in the Pack Three trim. While the standard setup prioritised comfort, some reviewers noted excessive vertical body movement over uneven roads, particularly at higher speeds. Although Race mode offered better control with a firmer suspension, it also sharpened throttle, steering, and regenerative braking responses, increasing energy consumption and making it less suitable for daily use. The new Custom mode addresses this by letting drivers individually adjust suspension stiffness, powertrain response, steering feel, and even climate settings. For instance, users can opt for a firmer suspension like Race mode while keeping steering light and throttle response relaxed as in Comfort mode.

While newly manufactured Mahindra XEV 9S units come standard with the ‘Custom’ drive mode, existing Pack Three models could receive the feature via an over-the-air update or at authorized dealerships. Official details, however, have yet to be confirmed.
The Mahindra XEV 9S comes with three battery options (59kWh, 70kWh, and 79kWh). The 59kWh pack delivers 228bhp with a claimed MIDC range of 521 kilometres, while the 70kWh battery produces 241bhp and a range of 600 kilometres. The top-spec 79kWh battery increases power to 282bhp, and offers a claimed range of 679 kilometres. That said, the value of torque is consistent across all variants at 380Nm.
The XEV 9S accelerates from 0–100km/h in 7 seconds, with a top speed of 202km/h. All battery options support fast charging, reaching 20–80% in just 20 minutes at 140–180 kW. For home charging, a 7.2 kW charger takes 8.7–11.7 hours for a full charge, while a faster 11 kW unit cuts this to 6–8 hours.
