Mahindra launches a new base variant of the XUV500 to make it more affordable by Rs. 58,000 in comparison to the previous W5 base variant.

It’s no secret that Mahindra’s full-sized SUVs have gone on to become quite expensive in recent times.  To address this issue, Mahindra has launched a new base variant of the XUV500, badged as the W3. Priced at Rs. 12.22 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai), the new Mahindra XUV500 W3 is not a bare-bones XUV as it still gets a fairly decent feature list in the form of projector headlamps, disc brakes all around, climate control, electrically adjustable ORVMs and power windows all around while dual front airbags, ABS and EBD are of course on offer.

"The XUV500 pioneered the creation of the premium SUV segment and set new benchmarks with its head-turning design, and unmatched package of hi-tech features and thrilling performance. Today the launch of the W3 version makes the vehicle much more accessible to a wider range of customers. With its excellent value proposition, I am confident that this new variant will resonate with a whole new set of our customers,” said Veejay Ram Nakra, Chief of Sales and Marketing, Automotive Division, Mahindra.

In contrast to the previous W5 base variant, the new W3 variant missed out on a stereo, wheel caps and rear wash wipe while the rear defogger is still on offer. The price difference between the W3 and W5 is Rs. 58,000 as the W5 retails at Rs. 12.80 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The new W3 variant otherwise is mechanically identical to higher-end manual models.

The XUV500 W3 has now lowered the entry-level price point for the XUV500 to the aforementioned Rs. 12.22 lakh while the top of the line W11 (O) AWD automatic retails at Rs. 19.63 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).
