The Mahindra Scorpio has the potential to disrupt the Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh space in the Indian car market, just like the XUV700 did.

The new Mahindra Scorpio has been in the making for years. In fact, there was a point in time when we expected it to break cover at the 2020 Auto Expo, but fast-forward two years, and we are yet to see the car in its entirety. However, a new teaser-trailer about the SUV which shows Mahindra’s employees talking about the SUV has revealed that we will get to see the new Scorpio quite soon.

From what we could make out in the video, the Scorpio shares quite a lot with the XUV700. The stance feels similar, the grille has similar elements and you see the new Mahindra logo on the grille as well.

As far as what to expect, we only have the word of the Mahindra employees in the video to go by for now. The SUV is expected to be big, setting new standards in the D-segment. It’s also expected to be fast and pack in a lot of high-tech features.

While size is something that is relative, the bit about the new Scorpio being fast is quite believable. It will use the same engines as the XUV700, albeit in a slightly lower tune so as to not encroach on the 700’s territory. Even the high-tech features are expected to be handed down from the XUV700, with most of the bits making the cut. The only big feature on the XUV700 that we don’t expect on the Scorpio is ADAS. That, and the pop-out handles.

Once launched, the Mahindra Scorpio will take on a bunch of cars. With its price being under that of the XUV700, the Scorpio will potentially take on the Kia Sonet, Kia Seltos, Kia Carens, Hyundai Venue, Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Harrier, MG Hector and more cars positioned in the Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh bracket (ex-showroom).
