Maruti Suzuki has joined manufacturers like MG in offering Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) for its first electric car, the e Vitara, in India. This marks the carmaker's debut of the BaaS plan, allowing buyers to lower their initial costs by leasing the battery separately, similar to what we've seen with MG models like the Comet and the Windsor. Maruti Suzuki has addressed one of the biggest challenges to EV adoption in India – the high upfront cost of the battery – with its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. With this plan, customers will be able to purchase the e Vitara without the battery, resulting in a reduced initial price.

Instead of paying for the battery upfront, buyers will subscribe to it on a monthly plan, paying only for the battery usage as they drive.
The e Vitara offers two battery options: a 49kWh and a 61kWh. Both versions feature a front-mounted electric motor. The 49kWh variant delivers 142bhp, whereas the larger 61kWh pack produces 172bhp. The torque value is the same at 192.5Nm across both versions. The base Delta variant will feature the smaller battery, while the higher Zeta and Alpha variants come equipped with the larger battery.
In terms of range, the 49kWh variant offers a claimed 344 kilometres (WLTP), while the 61kWh version can travel up to 543 kilometres (ARAI). The international-spec model offers an exclusive all-wheel-drive (AWD) option, which is not available in the India-spec version.

Maruti Suzuki’s first EV has a dual-screen layout, featuring a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment and a 10.25-inch all-digital driver’s display. It also includes a PM2.5 air filter, ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, and a 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

In terms of safety, the e Vitara is equipped with seven airbags, parking sensors (front and rear), TPMS, and a 360-degree camera, and Level-2 ADAS with lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.
