Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Crash Test for Safety Ratings

The India-made Maruti Suzuki Ertiga for South Africa obtained a 1-star safety rating in the most current round of GNCAP crash tests. The MPV scored 19.40 points out of a total of 49 points in child occupant protection and 23.63 points out of 34 points in adult occupant protection. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was tested on multiple criteria, such as frontal impact, side impact, and side pole impact, following Global NCAP regulations. The driver and passenger's head and neck protection in adult occupant protection was found to be adequate, particularly during frontal impact testing.

The chest protection of the driver was described as 'marginal', but that of the passenger was rated as 'good'. Due to the possibility of impact with potentially hazardous structures located behind the fascia, the driver's and passenger's knee protection was also graded as 'marginal'. While the protection for the driver's and passenger's tibias was designated as 'adequate,' the footwell region and the bodyshell were both described as 'unstable'.

In the side impact test, the chest was found to receive sufficient protection, while the head, abdomen, and pelvis showed good protection. The side pole impact test could not be carried out because curtain airbags are not offered even as an option.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga: Child Occupant Protection

The 3-year-old and 18-month-old dummies had their child seats installed forward-facing using the ISOFIX mounts and top restraints. During the frontal crash test, the 3-year-old dummy's seat effectively shielded the head from impact, but the neck and chest received only little protection. The child seat for the 18-month-old, on the other hand, was unable to avoid rapid deceleration in the head and provided inadequate protection for the chest and neck in the frontal impact. In the side impact test, however, both dummies were fully protected.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga: Other Highlights

The Africa-spec Ertiga's base model has two front airbags but no side or curtain airbags.  It comes with three-point front seatbelts with force limiters and pre-tensioners installed. There are two 3-point seatbelts for the second row along with a center 2-point lap belt and two 3-point seatbelts for the third row. Additionally, the car has ISOFIX child seat anchors. The higher-end versions of the MPV come with an additional pair of side airbags. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, even in the top-of-the-line models, does not possess active safety technology for pedestrian protection.
