Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG Spotted Testing; Likely to Launch in Mid-2023

A mule of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, with emission testing equipment fitted on the boot, has been spotted in Pune, India. The version caught on camera, with dual-tone alloy wheels and a rear wiper, is assumed to be a CNG model. According to rumours, the spotted model will offer a 1.2-litre petrol engine with a factory-installed CNG kit. When operating on CNG, the engine will be capable of churning out 76bhp and 98Nm. It may come with a 5-speed manual transmission. Maruti Suzuki has not confirmed the rumour of launching a CNG variant of the Fronx in India, but it’s expected to share details during the price announcement, which is likely to take place in mid-2023. Currently, bookings for the model are underway at a token amount of Rs 11,000. The new compact crossover from Maruti Suzuki will be offered in five models: Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha. It will come with either a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine or a brand-new 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol Boosterjet engine.

The expected CNG version might get all the advantages of Maruti Suzuki's factory-equipped S-CNG vehicles. For quicker and safer refuelling, it may come with several built-in modifications, including an intelligent injection system, retuned suspension, a fuel level indicator, an NGV receptacle, and an auto-switch between CNG and gasoline. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG's equipment list will depend on the trim level. The Fronx could come in Delta and Delta+ trims with a CNG option.

The CNG variant is anticipated to have body-coloured ORVMs with turn indicators, LED DRLs, automated headlights, alloy wheels, shark fin antennas, and UV-cut window glasses. Further, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG's interior may have a dual-tone design, premium fabric seats, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, push-button engine start/stop, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SmartPlay Pro, an electrically adjustable ORVMs, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and voice controls.

The Fronx, according to industry rumours, is expected to debut first, and the CNG model will follow shortly. It is expected to come with an introductory price of Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom) and may cost Rs 1 lakh more than its petrol versions.
