A test mule of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid has been spotted testing on Indian roads without any camouflage. It has LiDAR sensors on the roof, which are commonly used for mapping and calibrating advanced driver assistance systems. Though Maruti Suzuki hasn’t officially confirmed, the presence of the equipment indicates that the all-new Fronx may come with Level 2 ADAS, with functions such as automatic high beam, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and autonomous emergency braking.
Continuously rising fuel prices are one of the key reasons why buyers are increasingly turning towards more efficient alternatives such as hybrids. As hybrid powertrains steadily gain mainstream acceptance, Maruti Suzuki appears to be expanding its hybrid lineup in India, which already includes models like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Maruti Suzuki Invicto. The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Fronx with a hybrid setup seems to be the brand’s next step to attract buyers wanting improved efficiency and manageable running costs in a compact SUV suited for daily city use.
Here's a closer look at what you can expect from the new Fronx Hybrid.
In terms of design, the updated Maruti Suzuki Fronx is expected to remain largely unchanged. The test images suggest it continues with its signature coupe-SUV silhouette, while the rear now carries a hybrid badge that hints at the new fuel-efficient powertrain.

Inside, the cabin is likely to look familiar but could receive minor updates to support the hybrid system. These may include hybrid power-flow graphics on the infotainment screen, an updated touchscreen interface, and dedicated drive modes such as EV-only, Eco and Sport.
The hybrid iteration of the Fronx will likely adopt a series hybrid or range-extender setup. In this configuration, the 1.2-litre Z-series petrol engine will act only as a generator to charge the battery pack. Propulsion will come from an electric motor, which is expected to power the wheels on its own. With this, the hybrid model is anticipated to offer a mileage of more than 35km/l.
Currently, this Z-series engine already powers the new Swift and Dzire without any hybrid support, where it produces around 80bhp and 111.7Nm.
The Fronx hybrid is expected to command a premium ranging between Rs 2-3 lakh over its standard counterpart, which starts at Rs 6.85 lakh (ex-showroom).
