The Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid has been spotted testing on Indian roads, giving a first look at the brand’s next step in introducing hybrid technology for mass-market cars. The test vehicle carried a clear “hybrid” badge and LiDAR sensors on the front bumper, hinting at the addition of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This marks a big upgrade for the popular sub-compact SUV, combining fuel-saving hybrid tech with modern safety features. The inclusion of a Level 2 ADAS package could be one of the standout upgrades. Expected features include autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and automatic high-beam control. These will complement existing safety equipment such as six airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist and a 360-degree camera.

Together, these features make the SUV a strong choice for buyers seeking extra safety and convenience on the road.
The Fronx Hybrid is expected to use Maruti Suzuki’s in-house developed strong hybrid powertrain. Early reports suggest a 48V mild-hybrid setup paired with a turbocharged petrol engine. This configuration should support short all-electric runs, regenerative braking and improved fuel efficiency. With an estimated mileage of around 35km/l, the Fronx Hybrid could be India’s most fuel-efficient mass-market SUV, making it practical for both city commutes and long-distance trips.

Inside, Maruti Suzuki will likely revise the cabin to better integrate hybrid technology and driver assistance features. Updates could include a larger touchscreen infotainment system, dedicated hybrid power flow displays and improved user controls. The brand is also expected to retain the Fronx’s practicality, including good boot space and a layout that appeals to both urban families and first-time SUV buyers.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid is expected to launch in 2026 as part of the brand’s wider move towards electrification and hybridisation. Alongside upcoming hybrid versions of the Swift and Baleno, Maruti Suzuki is working on localising hybrid systems to keep prices competitive.
