May 2016: Top ten best selling cars

We take a look at the top ten selling cars for the month of May 2016 in India.

In the month of May 2016, the Indian automotive sector sold over 2,29,367 cars in the country. 15,813 units more compared to the corresponding month in 2015.

We have a list of 10 cars that sold the most in the month of May 2016. With a market share of 49.34%, Maruti Suzuki dominated the list with seven cars on the list. Hyundai hold 18.03% of the market with two cars on the list. Toyota has also made the list this time despite having 5.50% of the share of the Indian automotive market in fourth place behind Mahindra & Mahindra who hold 8% of the market.

On top of the list is the Maruti Suzuki Alto that sold 19,874 units in May 2016. But compared to the month in May 2015, the sales of the car have declined by 12%.

The Swift Dzire compact sedan has jumped up to second position with 16,968 units sold. while the WagonR holds station in third place, the Swift hatchback that held the second place on the charts has dropped down to fourth with 12,355 units sold in May 2016.

Hyundai hold the fifth and sixth position with the i10 Grand and the Elite i20 respectively. In May 2016, Hyundai sold 12,055 units of the i10 Grand moving it to fifth place, while the Elite i20 dropped to sixth with 10,472 units sold.

The Renault Kwid that held the spot of seventh place till last month has dropped off as Maruti Suzuki sold 10,004 units of the Baleno hatchback in May 2016. The Kwid has not only lost its place of seventh on the list, but has dropped off the list all together with only 5600 units sold during the time period.

The Celerio from Maruti Suzuki stands in eighth as the Celerio sold 7,379 units seeing a growth in sales by 10%. Toyota with the all new Innova has made it to the list in ninth place being the only MPV on the list. Toyota has moved out 7,259 units across the country despite the diesel ban ruling in the Delhi NCR region hampering their sales.

The final spot is also held by Maruti Suzuki with the Vitara Brezza sub-4 metre SUV. Maruti sold 7,193 nits of the Brezza in India and outselling Hyundai Creta which is close behind in 11^th.
