The Mercedes-Benz GLA finally gets four-wheel drive in India! Launched at Rs. 38.51 lakh (ex-showroom Pune).
Mercedes-Benz of India has finally launched a four-wheel drive version of the GLA in diesel specification. Badged as the Mercedes-Benz GLA 220d 4Matic ‘Activity Edition’ which comes with what Mercedes calls its ‘off-road engineering package’. Until now the Mercedes-Benz GLA has been available in India with the choice of a petrol engine in the GLA 200 and a diesel engine in the GLA 220d. The Mercedes-Benz GLA 220d 4Matic Activity Edition continues to be powered by the company’s 2.2 litre, four cylinder, turbo diesel engine developing 167BHP of max power between 3,400 – 4,000 rpm and 350Nm of peak torque @ 1,400 – 3,400 rpm. The engine continues to be mated to Mercedes’ 7-speed automatic gearbox. The only difference then is power being channeled to all four wheels via Merc’s legendary 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
Commenting on the occasion, Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes Benz India said, “Mercedes-Benz’s SUV portfolio witnessed a strong demand since its introduction and grew over 100% in the last couple of years. The GLA was a key addition to our SUV portfolio as it not only generated volumes for us, but also opened the SUV segment to a much younger customer base. We have sold over 3500 units of the GLA since its market introduction and with the launch of the GLA 220 d 4MATIC Activity Edition; we expect the volumes to scale even further and add more value to the consumer. The GLA 220 d will now be available with the 4MATIC and off-road package as standard; which will ensure our discerning customers can make the best of every ground with this fully-capable SUV. We are confident that the GLA 220 d 4MATIC Activity Edition will continue Mercedes-Benz’s dominance in the luxury SUV segment in India.”
Visually enhancing the all-wheel drive model’s appeal in India are new 18 inch alloy wheels, longitudinal chrome elements on rocker panel, black decals on doors, Activity Edition badges and a new mountain grey paint shade.
Equipment highlights aboard the all-wheel drive GLA include, keyless start / stop, rear view camera, eight inch infotainment screen, etc.
The Mercedes-Benz GLA 220d 4Matic Activity Edition is priced at Rs. 38.51 lakh (ex-showroom Pune).
