Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC launched in India

After its global debut in late 2019, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC has now been launched in India. The first 50 SUVs have already found home, and more are expected via the CBU route.

The Mercedes-Benz’s flagship SUV has made its India debut. The prices for the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC starts from Rs 2.43 crore (ex-showroom). The GLS 600 4MATIC is Maybach’s second offering in the Indian market and the first SUV in its portfolio. Martin Schwenk, CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, has confirmed that the company has already received 50 orders for the new flagship SUV.

The Maybach-treated GLS takes the luxury quotient higher by a notch over the standard Mercedes-Benz GLS. The flagship SUV is offered with a four-seat layout, with two recliners seats for the passengers in the second row. The seats come with a massaging function and a fixed centre console that houses a refrigerator for champagne bottles and silver champagne flutes. The centre console also houses a tablet to control the car’s multimedia system. In addition to the infotainment screen at the front, passengers in the rear get two individual screens mounted on the headrest of the front seats, paired with the Burmester stereo system.

Upfront, the passengers will see a larger spread of glass on the dashboard, which houses the instrument cluster and multimedia system. There is a very elegant wooded finish on the dashboard, steering wheel, and centre console. The front and rear passenger seats feature very liberal use of Nappa leather. Other features include memory seats, four-zone climate control, eight-airbags, and all-LED adaptive headlamp and taillamps.

The SUV is not all about luxury. The GLS 600 4MATIC gets a 4.0-litre V8, coupled with a 48-volt mild-hybrid motor, which adds 21bhp and 250Nm of torque to the overall output. The combined power output is rated at 549bhp and 730Nm of torque, all of which is sent to all the wheels via a nine-speed gearbox coupled with an all-wheel-drive system. The SUV rides on 22-inch Maybach multi-spoke light-alloy wheels and gets air suspension to enhance the overall experience.

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC is targeted towards buyers who like SUVs such as the Land Rover Range Rover, Bentley Bentayga, and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
