MG COMET

MG Motor India has launched the Comet EV in the country. The compact electric hatchback has three variants: Pace, Play, and Plush. In India, the entry-level Pace trim is priced at Rs 7.98 lakh, whereas the Play and the Plush versions cost Rs 9.28 lakh and Rs 9.98 lakh, respectively. Both prices are ex-showroom. These prices, according to MG, are only valid for the first 5,000 bookings and will likely increase later. The bookings of the EV haven't started yet. MG will begin taking pre-orders for the compact electric hatchback from 15 this month. Also, it will start deliveries of the electric car from May 22. The Comet EV featuring a three-door hatchback body shape has no direct competitor. However, as an entry-level electric car in the country, it goes against models like the Citroen eC3 and the Tata Tiago EV. Let's dive into more details about this electric car, which is the second electric offering of the manufacturer after the MG ZS EV.

By using a 3.3kW charger, the battery of the Comet can be charged from 0 to 100% in 7 hours. Further, the EV's motor churns out 41bhp of maximum power and 110NM of peak torque.

MG Comet EV: Variants

The electric hatchback has three variants: Pace, Play, and Plush. The base model - Pace, has a starry black interior, an illuminated MG emblem, and steel wheels with covers. Further, the standard model gets chrome door handles on both the inside and outside. It has a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster. Additionally, features-wise, it gets folding keys, motorised ORVMs, power windows, manual HVAC, remote central locking, and more. The other two variants - Play and Plush get an infotainment system and MG's i-Smart linked car technology, but this one does not.

Bluetooth capability, two speakers, and 3 USB ports are among its other amenities. On the safety front, the base model has Dual airbags, an IP67-rated battery, ABS+EBD, rear parking sensors, rear LED fog lamps, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and more.

On the other side, the Play model has received a 10.25-inch LCD touchscreen for infotainment, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as, an i-Smart with more than 55 connected car functions. However, it does not have a reversing camera or the Smart Start system in its feature list.

The top-spec Plush model boasts almost the same features as the Play variant. But, unlike the mid-spec version, it sports a smart start technology and a reversing camera. In terms of features, it gets a smartphone-based digital key, tilt adjustable steering wheel, Auto up function for the driver’s window, and others.

MG Comet EV: Design

The electric car has a boxy appearance. It sports a strip connecting both mirrors and an LED light bar. Additionally, it has received a charging port with an MG monogram under the light bar in the front end. At the rear, similar to the front, it has an LED light bar, tail lamps, and the Comet name matched with an MG insignia. Additionally, the car comes with several graphics packs. Sticker styles and light packs are the two categories into which MG splits the graphics. It rides on 12-inch alloy wheels, which are currently the smallest wheels available on any vehicle in India.
