MG has revealed the S9 plug-in hybrid, the brand’s first seven-seater SUV in the UK, with prices starting at £34,205 (around Rs 42.25 lakh). The large MG SUV offers a more affordable option compared to competitors like the Volkswagen Tayron eHybrid and the Skoda Kodiaq iV, with sales scheduled to start later this year. Although full technical details are still to be revealed, the MG S9 PHEV features a 24.7kWh battery with an electric-only range of up to 100 kilometres. MG has not officially confirmed its launch in India, but reports suggest the company might introduce a three-row PHEV SUV in the future. If that happens, the S9 would help expand MG’s electrified lineup and strengthen its position in the competitive seven-seater SUV market, currently including the Hector Plus and the Gloster.
MG S9 will be powered by the same plug-in hybrid powertrain used in the MG HS. This setup combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 24.7kWh battery pack, and enables a claimed electric-only range of up to 100 kilometres.

While MG has not yet disclosed the exact output figures for the S9, the PHEV system in the HS produces 291bhp and 350Nm.

Although the cabin of the MG S9 has not been revealed yet, MG states that the three-row SUV will come with a host of comfort and tech features. These include leather-style upholstery, ventilation and massage functions, a large panoramic sunroof, and front seats with heating, tri-zone climate control.
In terms of safety, the S9 PHEV has already earned a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, thanks to the extensive use of high-strength steel and the inclusion of up to 16 advanced driver assistance systems.
