Mitsubishi D:X Electric Crossover Concept Unveiled at Japan Mobility Show, Previews Plug-in Hybrid Off-Roader

The Mitsubishi D:X Concept is a six-seater electrified crossover with a new dynamic shield front fascia. Under the skin, it gets a plug-in hybrid setup that uses the S-AWC integrated vehicle dynamics control system.

Mitsubishi Motors has revealed the all-new D:X Concept, which could be a preview of the carmaker's next-generation Delica van. Showcased at the ongoing Japan Mobility Show 2023, the D:X Concept is a six-seater electrified crossover, featuring the T-shaped front and rear signature lights, 'sturdy over-fenders, large-diameter tyres', a moonroof, sliding doors, a raised suspension setup, and other off-roading credentials. Meanwhile, the side window graphics extending from the front of the cabin to the D-pillar reflects the character of the Delica. Other visual bits on the D:X include thick body cladding around the wheel arches, short overhangs, mud-terrain tires, LED laser projector headlights, as well as front and rear skid plates with side step protectors for 'excellent road performance' under rough conditions.

The design of the D:X concept also features the latest interpretation of the dynamic shield front fascia, which has been further devolved to include an integrated shield that extends from the sides, offering enhanced protection to the cabin. The Mitsubishi D:X features a glamping-inspired copper shade, along with a new semi-gloss texture.

Based on the "Maximum Space and Safety for Humans, Maximum Off-Roader for Boundaryless Adventure" design concept, the electrified crossover gets a 'monobox' interior design that is said to provide ample room for all passengers. Furthermore, there is a futuristic-looking steering wheel, a digital cluster, a front window & a see-through hood for a wide field of vision, as well as panoramic seats that can move up/down and rotate. The Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium sound system, which is a collaborative effort between Mitsubishi and Yamaha, provides optimum sound quality within the car's interior, while a voice-interactive AI concierge assists occupants with traffic information, weather updates, and more. As mentioned before, the concept comes with a 2+2+2 seating arrangement (six-seater).

Under the skin, the Mitsubishi D:X Concept is equipped with the S-AWC (Super - All Wheel Controller) integrated vehicle dynamics control system which is adopted for the electric 4WD system. According to the company, this system provides a safe, secure, and comfortable ride in various weather and road conditions. On offer are different driving modes – EV, Hybrid, and more. Further details on this are awaited.

Along with the new D:X concept, Mitsubishi also showcased a prototype of the all-new Triton pickup truck, scheduled for launch in Japan in early 2024.
