Just a few months ago, Audi took the wraps off its upcoming A5 Coupe. Now the Ingolstadt based car maker has released the first images of its drop top version. This new A5 Cabriolet will debut at the LA Auto Show on November 14.

In terms of design the A5 Cabriolet looks more or less identical to its coupe sibling. Audi claims that the cabriolet can drop its roof in 15 seconds and closes it in 18 seconds up to speeds of 50 km/h. Audi has employed a new process that helps in improving the aero-acoustic properties of the car. As far as dimensions are concerned, the new A5 Cabriolet is 47mm longer and also has an increase in wheelbase of 14mm over its predecessor.

On the inside too, the Audi A5 Cabriolet has been fitted with the same dashboard as the Coupe version. The A5 Cabriolet comes also come with the ‘virtual cockpit’ that has a 12.3-inch TFT screen in place of dials on the instrumentation. While the A5 Cabriolet comes with Bluetooth telephony, its microphones are fitted on the seatbelt which claims to improve voice clarity.

The A5 Cabriolet shares a lot in common with its namesake. To start with, it is based on the same platform as the tin top A5. Under the hood, it comes with the same engine as its coupe sibling. Internationally, the A5 convertible will come with four engine options – 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre petrol and diesel engine options. The 3.0-litre TFSI unit will only come in the S5 Cabriolet avatar which makes an impress 349bhp. All of this power enables it to go from standstill to 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds. The 2.0-litre petrol motor makes 249bhp. The diesel A5 Cabriolet will come with a 2.0-litre TDI and a 3.0-litre TDI engine that is good for 187bhp and 215bhp respectively.

There is still no clarity about the fact that the A5 Cabriolet in any of its avatars will make it to Indian shores. That being said, the next big launch for Audi has to be the SQ7 which is expected to be launched in 2 months’ time.
