The fifth generation of the Honda CR-V has been revealed which is longer and wider than the outgoing car and features a new turbocharged engine.

Among the many cars we Indians await from Honda, like the Accord Hybrid and the Civic, an addition to the list includes the latest generation of the CR-V that has just been revealed.

Despite the CR-V only being sold with a petrol engine, the CR-V like the Civic was a very popular car in India after the second generation of the car was first introduced. Following its initial success, Honda brought in the third and fourth generation as well. The fifth generation of the CR-V is also expected to arrive in India but no official confirmation from Honda has been made as yet.

The exterior styling has been updated with a sharper front end, new headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The front grille also features an automatic shutter system that reduces aerodynamic drag, a first fro Honda. The rear has been completely restyled with all new tail lamps that run along the back of the C-pillar and the apron and wrapping onto the tailgate, with chrome strip right below the rear windscreen running across the width between and connecting the tail lamps. The tail gate also features an automatic release system similar to what one may find on many modern cars these days.

The CR-V now features an all new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that has been turbocharged to develop 190bhp and 288Nm of torque. The naturally aspirated 2.4-litre motor that is currently available will also be available that will come mated just like the formatter with a CVT gearbox.

The interior has also been updated with a numerous features and styling. The new CR-V now gets a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen on the centre console which also has a control knob which can also control some features. In addition, the instrument cluster also features a coloured screen driver interface, while the car comes with a satellite navigation system that has been co-developed by Garmin. The system also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with voice activated controls. Additional features include dual-zone climate control, remote start, electronic handbrake and rear USB ports.

Honda has also equipped the latest generation of the CR-V with numerous safety features like collision-mitigating braking, road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist, blind spot detection rear cross-traffic monitor and automatic highbeam headlamps.
