Tata Motors has launched the updated Tata Punch EV in India. Prices start at Rs 9.69 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Battery-as-a-Service option lowers the entry price to Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom). This battery rental scheme makes the electric SUV significantly more accessible for buyers looking to switch from traditional petrol or diesel vehicles. Under the BaaS ownership model, customers pay a nominal fee of Rs 2.6 per kilometre as battery rental.

This strategy is specifically designed to lower the upfront cost of EVs, easing the transition for middle-class families without the burden of a heavy initial investment.
The latest iteration of the Punch.ev adopts the brand’s sophisticated new design language. The front fascia features a revised bumper and a sleek, closed grille that neatly houses the integrated charging port. At the rear, connected LED tail lamps span the tailgate, providing a premium, wider stance on the road.

While the silhouette remains iconic, new 16-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels have been added to reduce drag and improve the driving range, further distancing it from its internal combustion engine (ICE) siblings.
Inside the cabin, the Tata Punch EV interior has received a substantial tech upgrade. The dashboard now features a high-definition 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a matching 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Tata has replaced the traditional gear lever with a modern rotary drive selector featuring an integrated display. To enhance the premium feel, the cabin now incorporates more soft-touch materials and refined door pads.

The EV feature list is impressive for its class, offering a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, and ventilated front seats. For added convenience, the vehicle includes an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, a wireless phone charger, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Furthermore, the smart voice assistant is now capable of understanding over 200 commands in multiple regional languages.
Built on the advanced Acti.ev platform, the new Punch EV offers two distinct battery configurations. The Standard Range version features a 30kWh battery pack with an improved claimed range. For those with long-distance requirements, the Long Range variant now offers a 40kWh battery option, delivering an ARAI-certified range of up to 468km.

The performance is equally noteworthy; the larger battery produces 121bhp and 190Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100km/h sprint in under nine seconds. Using a 65kW DC fast charger, the battery can be replenished from 20 to 80 per cent in just 26 minutes.
With Punch EV bookings now open across India, Tata Motors is clearly intent on maintaining its dominance in the compact electric segment.
