Nissan is betting big on India with three all-new cars, and two of them – the Gravite MPV and the Tekton compact SUV – have already been confirmed for launch. The French automaker is also developing a 7-seater SUV for the Indian market, though the exact details are currently scarce. Recently, Nissan offered a glimpse of its entry-level MPV for India, the Gravite, which is expected to share its underpinnings with its French cousin, the Triber. While the car’s proportions look similar, the Gravite sets itself apart with elements, including a honeycomb-patterned grille, a sculpted bonnet with a hood scoop-inspired design, redesigned bumpers, refreshed alloy wheels, and uniquely styled taillights. Nissan has confirmed that the MPV will go on sale in India in January, and here’s everything you can expect from it.

Nissan states that the three-row MPV will begin reaching showrooms in March. It will expand the brand’s reach in the family-friendly, mass-market 7-seater segment. Currently, Nissan’s Indian lineup comprises only the Magnite compact SUV and the premium X-Trail MPV.

In terms of the market rivalry, the new Gravite MPV will go head-to-head against the Renault Triber while serving as an alternative to popular models in the segment, including the Kia Carens, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and the XL6. It could be priced similarly to the Triber, which starts at Rs 5.76 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Gravite is expected to borrow the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine from the Triber, which puts out a maximum power of 71bhp and a peak torque of 96Nm. Transmission options will likely include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. In addition, Nissan may expand the lineup later with a CNG variant.
The Gravite is expected to come with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote keyless entry, a wireless phone charger, a 6-speaker audio system, and manual AC with rear vents. It may also include a rearview camera, hill start assist, six airbags (standard), front and rear parking sensors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) for safety.
