One lakh cars have rolled out of Ford’s Sanand plant in 1.5 years

Ford India has rolled out one lakh units out of its Sanand plant in Gujarat with the Ford Figo hatchback being the 1,00,000^th car that rolled out.

After inaugurating the new production facility in Sanand, Gujarat in which the company invested $1 billion, only in January 2015, Ford India has rolled out a Ford Figo hatchback that marked the 1,00,000^th unit to have produced and shipped out of the plant.

Ford currently has two plants in India, one in Chennai which caters to the EcoSport and Endeavour SUVs demand and the Sanand facility that produces the Figo hatchback and the Figo Aspire sub 4-metre sedan. The plant in Sanand employs 2500 workers and has an annual capacity of 2.4 lakh units for vehicles, while it can also produce 2.7 lakh engines as well.

The Figo and the Figo Aspire are both powered by a 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engines, with the former being available with a DCT automatic gearbox. For the diesel engine, the Figo and Aspire come with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine that develops 98bhp and comes mated to 5-speed manual transmission.

The Sanand plant caters not only caters to the local demand of the Figo and Figo Aspire, but also produces cars to be exported to 25 international markets including Europe, Africa, Middle East and South East Asia.
