Bookings of both these models have already begun

After a long wait, Porsche has finally announced the launch of the 718 Boxter and Cayman, on February 15. Both these models wear the iconic Le Man winning badge, which has been revived by Porsche after almost 50 years. Needless to say, these baby Porsches have huge expectations to fulfil. Bookings for the new Porsche 718 Boxter and the Cayman have commenced already.

In terms of design, the 718 Boxter and the 718 Cayman get revised front bumper with larger intakes. The bi-Xenon headlights get a quad-LED setup with Daytime Running Lamps. While much of the profile remains unchanged, the only noticeable change is the larger intakes and the nicely integrated side skirts. The rear has been completely reworked with a strip of LED connecting the two taillights.

The baby Boxter and Cayman give the 3.4-litre six-cylinder unit the boot and in its place comes a 2.0-litre four-pot turbocharged motor that churns out about 296bhp and 380Nm. Mated to a seven-speed PDK gearbox, both these cars can do the 0-100 dash in just 5.1 seconds and record a top speed of 275km/h. The chassis and the suspension setup has been improved to offer better performance and a thrilling drive.

Unlike the current-generation Boxter and Cayman, the 718s will come with a longer list of features as standard. Both these cars come fitted with a 918-inspired steering wheel. Other features include bi-Xenon headlights, ceramic brakes, sports seats and a Porsche Communication Management system.

Both cars are expected to be priced between Rs 80-85 lakh (ex-showroom) when they are launched on February 15. As we wait for the launch of the Porsche 718 series, read our review of the 718 Boxter.
