Porsche has globally unveiled the 911 GT3 S/C as the first GT3 to have a fully automatic convertible roof. Until now, the 911 Speedster was the only model to combine a GT3-sourced engine with a topless body. With the 911 GT3 S/C (Sport Cabriolet), Porsche has changed that, making it the first time for the race-derived engine to be offered in a standard, Cabriolet form with a fully automatic roof. The 911 GT3 S/C is the sole open-top 911 offered strictly as a two-seater. It also gets an optional Street Style Package for customisation. Unlike the limited-run 911 S/T or the previous Speedster, the GT3 S/C is a series-production model, which means it is not restricted to a fixed number of units.

The new open-top variant of the 911 GT3 range adheres to the ‘weight is the enemy of performance’ philosophy. The extensive use of lightweight components (most from the 911 S/T) helps it to shave off a considerable amount of mass. Porsche has utilised carbon-fibre for the bonnet, front wings, and doors. Even the anti-roll bars and rear shear plate are made from carbon fibre. Other highlights include lightweight magnesium centre-lock wheels (20-inch front, 21-inch rear), standard PCCB brakes (which are said to be 20 kg lighter compared to conventional units), and a 40 Ah lithium-ion battery. Porsche has extended the use of magnesium to the fully automatic roof. The 911 GT3 S/C weighs 1,497 kg, which makes it one of the lightest production convertibles in its class.
Porsche has installed a fully automatic soft top on this new variant of the GT3 instead of the manual setup found on the Speedster by redesigning its rear section (eliminating the use of a double-bubble rear cover). The roof features magnesium elements and can be opened or closed in about 12 seconds, even while driving at speeds of up to 50km/h.

The car also gets an electrically operated wind deflector that can be deployed in just two seconds and works at speeds of up to 120km/h. For the first time in an open-top 911, the car gets a double wishbone front axle.

Design-wise, the 911 GT3 S/C gets a black windscreen frame, slender LED headlights, and larger air intakes. There’s also a Gurney flap on the rear spoiler and GT3-derived aero. The interior boasts carbon-fibre accents and Sports Seats Plus as standard, with optional bucket seats.
The driver-centric layout includes a perforated leather steering wheel, rotary ignition, and a digital cluster with a dedicated Track Screen mode.
The 911 GT3 S/C employs a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six engine that makes 503bhp and 450Nm and can rev up to 9,000rpm. The unit gets upgraded cylinder heads and aggressive camshafts from the GT3 RS, and uses a 6-speed manual for handling transmission chores. The 0 to 100km/h acceleration time stands at 3.9 seconds, while the top speed is 313km/h.
