Renault has unveiled the India-spec Duster, marking its return to the market after being discontinued in 2022. The SUV arrives in its third-generation avatar and, for the first time, offers a strong-hybrid powertrain. However, it is important to note that deliveries for the strong-hybrid variant will begin by Diwali 2026.
The new Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine with a 1.4kWh battery, and is inspired by Renault’s Formula 1 expertise. It is joined by two turbo-petrol engine options in the lineup. Customer deliveries for the turbo models are said to commence in April. Here’s everything you need to know about the strong-hybrid variant.
The new Renault Duster’s strong-hybrid powertrain, codenamed HR18, is built by Horse Powertrain, a Renault-Geely joint venture. It combines a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with two electric motors: a 48bhp unit driving the wheels and a 19.7bhp generator. The system delivers 158bhp and 172Nm overall, and is supported by a 1.4kWh battery. While official fuel efficiency figures are yet to be disclosed, Renault claims the SUV can run in electric mode for 80% of typical city driving.
Along with a strong-hybrid powertrain, the all-new Duster offers two turbo-petrol engine options. The first is a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit that produces 99bhp and 160Nm, and is paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The second is a 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that churns out 161bhp and 280Nm, and is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT.
Prices for the new Duster are expected to range between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV will take on popular rivals such as the Tata Sierra, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq.
