Skoda Octavia India launch timeline confirmed

The highly anticipated new-gen Skoda Octavia will be launched in India next month. Currently, the market space is dominated by the Hyundai Elantra which benefits from a diesel drivetrain

Zac Hollis, Director, Skoda Auto India, has confirmed on a social network handle that the company will launch the fourth-gen Octavia in the month of June. Initially, the new sedan was scheduled to break cover in the month of April. Skoda India had plans to announce pricing in the same month and the deliveries were expected to commence sometime in the month of May 2021. Due to the pandemic and lockdown imposed in the states of India, Skoda postponed the initial launch plans. However, Skoda India had already begun the assembly of the fourth-gen Octavia at its facility in Aurangabad in the first week of April 2021.

The Octavia will be sold in India by the CKD route and the prices are expected to range between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom). Currently, the Hyundai Elantra dominates the D-segment sedan market space in India, and the 2021 Skoda Octavia will join in sometime in June. The Hyundai Elantra is sold with an option of a diesel engine as well, which the Skoda Octavia will miss out on.

There are two engines expected to be offered. A 1.5-litre turbocharged unit is expected to be powering the lower variants, available with a manual or an optional automatic gearbox. The higher variants could be equipped with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol unit mated to a twin-clutch automatic transmission. The 4th gen car could also be launched with the L&K and Onyx variants at a later date.
