Fans of the Skoda Octavia RS rejoice! The new one is coming to our shores soon. Zac Hollis, Director of Sales, Service and Marketing at Skoda India officially confirmed on Twitter earlier today.
Skoda brought the previous Octavia RS to India in September 2017. The company had only allotted 300 units of the car for India, and as one would expect, Skoda didn’t have to break a sweat to sell them. In fact, demand for the car was so high that the Czech carmaker had to ship an additional 200 units. All 500 units of the car were sold out before the end of the year. Since then, enthusiasts have been waiting for Skoda to bring in more units of the performance sedan, and now it seems like the wait will soon come to an end. Although there is no official confirmation as yet, we expect Skoda to launch the Octavia RS 245 at the Auto Expo 2020.
This Octavia RS sports a slightly more powerful heart in comparison to the one that was launched here in 2017. The Octavia RS 245 employs the same 2.0-litre TSI motor but makes 242bhp and 370Nm – an increase of roughly 15 horses and 20Nm over the model it replaces. All of its power goes to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG transmission. To ensure that the RS 245 delivers unmatched performance, it also gets a VAQ limited-slip differential. The Octavia RS 245 can do the 0 – 100km/h dash in 6.6 seconds – that’s 0.2 seconds faster than the previous RS 230. Top-speed is limited to 250km/h.
Aside from the engine, Skoda has also made mild tweaks to the exterior and interior of the Octavia RS. It is expected to come with 19-inch alloy wheels. The interior, as before, will be draped in Alcantara with contrast red stitching on the seats, steering, and door pads.
While the coming of the RS 245 is definitely good news, there’s some bad news too. Skoda will only bring a shipment of 200 units, and it will be the last batch to land here before the new-generation Octavia is launched towards the end of 2020.
