Skoda has launched its Octavia RS in India at Rs 49.99 lakh (ex-showroom), with bookings for the limited 100-unit selling out quickly and deliveries starting in early November of 2025. The RS version of the Octavia marks Skoda’s return to the performance sedan segment in India. This launch provides a new choice for enthusiasts alongside the Volkswagen Golf GTI, which is priced at Rs 53 lakh (ex-showroom). Both models cater to buyers interested in premium performance vehicle but deliver distinct experiences within the Volkswagen Group lineup.
Though both cars share a performance focus and similar engine specs, they target different buyer priorities. The Octavia RS is the larger, roomier option aimed at those wanting sportiness with added space and comfort. The Golf GTI is more compact and agile, emphasising sharp handling and a classic hot hatch appeal.

Their different dimensions and brand traits provide buyers with distinct alternatives in the same performance segment.
Design-wise, the Octavia RS projects a strong and aggressive stance with a blacked-out grille, larger 19-inch alloys, and a muscular front bumper. It measures approximately 4.7 metres in length, notably longer than the Golf GTI’s 4.3 metres.

The Golf GTI opts for a cleaner look with its red grille stripe and compact silhouette, focusing on sporty cues like honeycomb fog lamp surrounds and subtle badging. Skoda’s RS offers a dominant road presence, while Volkswagen’s GTI delivers a tight, purposeful look that suits its nimble nature.
Both cars feature premium touches and tech-loaded cabins, but differ in several areas. The Octavia RS features a larger 13-inch touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, and sports seats with heating, cooling, massage, and memory functions. Carbon-fibre elements complement its sporty yet comfortable cabin.

The Golf GTI uses a 12.9-inch infotainment system with a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, supporting Level 2 driver assistance and adaptive cruise control. Both interiors provide a premium experience, but the Octavia leans more towards luxury and spaciousness.
Performance comes from the shared 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a seven-speed DSG gearbox producing 265bhp and 370Nm torque. The Golf GTI is slightly quicker off the line, completing 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds versus the Octavia RS’s 6.4 seconds, aided by its lighter weight. Top speed figures hover around 241-250km/h for both. The GTI focuses on agility and sharp handling, whereas the Octavia offers a planted drive with a performance exhaust system and lower suspension for better stability.

The Skoda Octavia RS and Volkswagen Golf GTI deliver compelling performance choices for Indian buyers. The Octavia RS appeals to those seeking a spacious, feature-rich sporty sedan, while the Golf GTI remains the pure, nimble hot hatch option. Both models add strong performance options to the segment with refined features and modern technology.
